Algal Toxin
Analysis — ELISA
Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent
Assay (ELISA) testing is used to
detect the presence of many algal toxin residues that
may be released by blue-green algae in surface waters.
The specific ELISA is based on combining an antibody which
binds with the toxin or toxin enzyme conjugate. The
detection of toxins, at very low levels, in surface
water and drinking water is possible by analyzing the
enzyme reaction. ELISA testing is effective on the following
toxins:
- Microcystins
- Saxitoxins
- Domoic Acid
- Okadaic Acid
- Cylindrospermopsin
