Water and Algal Monitoring — Overview

Monitoring is considered to be the key component in minimizing the impact of toxin producing algae. GreenWater Laboratories/CyanoLab has the ability, the equipment/instrumentation and the experience to organize, design and perform individual monitoring programs.

GWL/CL has been conducting aquatic monitoring programs since its inception in 2001. GWL/CL has performed on-site monitoring of streams and lakes in the Orange Creek Basin (FL), Alachua County (FL), Seminole County (FL), the Lower St. Johns River Basin (Putnam, Clay and Duval Counties) and springs in Marion and Lake Counties (FL) for water quality, algal toxins and algal community structure determination. GWL/CL maintains a 16-ft Gheenoe and has access to airboats and larger motorboats through its association with Florida Airboats.

GWL/CL currently works with drinking water utilities throughout the USA that utilize surface waters as a source for producing potable water. GWL/CL can design a thorough yet efficient monitoring program for the identification of potentially toxigenic cyanobacteria as well as the identification and quantification of algal toxins. Typically, the major limitation to such programs is excessive turnaround times of necessary data. GWL/CL prides itself in providing the most accurate and expeditious results possible. Turnaround times can be 24-48 hrs. GWL/CL personnel will be glad to assist companies in designing taylor-made programs for individual client needs. GWL/CL is a private corporation and all data are treated as being strictly confidential and only accessible to specified client personnel.
